Included are letters from parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other relatives of Indian students attending Hampton Institute; Christmas letters to Indian students who had returned home, either after having graduated or for other reasons; information of a general nature such as appropriations reports, correspondence, and reports regarding funding of Indian education at Hampton Institute; attendance records and reports regarding attendance of Indian students; United States Civil Service Commission examination forms and other government data regarding entrance into government service by Hampton's Indian graduates; citizenship information regarding Hampton's Indian students' celebrations and observances of the Dawes Act (government bill sponsored by Senator Henry L.
