Miss Caroline W. Andrus arrived at Hampton Institute when she was ten years of age, accompanied by her mother who had 1875-1961 come to Hampton to care for her oldest daughter, a teacher at Hampton Institute who was ill with malaria. Miss Andrus remained at the College and when old enough began working in the Indian Records Office, under the supervision of Miss Cora M. Folsom. She later succeeded Miss Folsom as Director of the Indian Records Office when Miss Folsom retired in 1922.
